ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) is a U.S. not-for-profit performance rights organization (PRO) that collects and distributes performance royalties for its songwriter, composer, and music publisher members when their music is played publicly by businesses like radio stations, bars, streaming services, and TV networks. It’s governed by its members, licenses millions of songs across genres, and ensures creators get paid for the public use of their work, putting creators first by returning a large percentage of collected fees back to them as royalties.
